    Frequently Asked Questions

Courtesy may not be the first thing people think of when it comes to handymen, but for us, it's one of the most important tools we carry.
    1
How do I prevent my drain from clogging?

Clogged drains are the most common plumbing issues any homeowner can come across. There are many ways to prevent clogging: Do not put grease or oil down your kitchen drain. Grease, fat and other oils cool down and they garden and can adhere to your pipes and will block debris coming through your drain line. It also helps to use strainers on all your drains to catch any debris that go down your drain.

    2
I Smell gas, what should I do?
    • Turn off any open fires and leave the premises and call your local gas provider and isolate gas if it is safe to do so. You can also vacate the building until help arrives.

    3
I can hear water running, what should I do?

Turn off all appliances that are using water if there are any and turn off your main water valve. Then call a professional to inspect your plumbing to source and repair the leak. If you cannot turn off your main water valve, you will need to contact your municipality’s environmental services to turn the water off at the curb.

    4
My kids dropped my car keys down the toilet, can you get them?

We can definitely try our best! If they got caught in the toilet, you will get your car keys back. We will drain and remove your toilet and attempt to retrieve them from either the toilet or the line however there is never a guarantee.

    5
I can't get through a shower without running out of hot water, what's the problem?
    • There are a few factors than can associate with this and it could be as easy and checking the setting on the gas controller on your water heater. Your water heater could also need a new dip tube. Either way, it is best to call a professional Plumber in to fix the problem the right way!

    6
My water heater needs a repair, but it is 9 years old, what should I do?
    • The reason why we see water heaters that need to be replaced so early is quality of water (i.e., you will see a longer lifespan if you have a water softener installed) and use of the tank. A tank that is being overfired and used frequently will cause sediment and calcium to build up faster and wear on the components faster as well. If you have a 40-Gallon tank in your home but you are a family of 6 who uses the dishwasher, laundry, and tub/shower daily – it might not be a bad idea to consider going up a size or two!

    7
Should you shut off water when on going on a vacation?
    • Turning off the main water supply to your home is the best defense against flooding caused by a burst pipe or other plumbing failure. “Leaking water lines will flood your house while you are away.

    8
Why is the water coming out of my faucet orange/brown?
    • The variations in color have to do with different oxidation levels, but either way, you should replace your pipes as soon as possible. While rusty water isn’t detrimental to your health, it stains your sink and laundry. This color water will also affect the taste and color of your food.

    9
Why is my toilet leaking at the base?
    • This water is from the toilet bowl and is not sanitary. The dirty water can even have a sewer smell to it. This type of leak usually indicates a problem with the wax ring that forms a seal between the toilet base and the drainpipe under the toilet. If left untreated, each flush will continue to leak, resulting in water damage to your flooring and possibly the room ceiling below.

    10
Why does my floor feel warm and or wet?
    • Warm spots are often caused by a hot water line close to a concrete slab’s surface. However, it can be a warning sign of a more serious underlying issue, such as a slab leak. If you have no water fixtures near the wet area, chances are you have a slab leak, unless you have a child that has spilled something and was hesitant to tell you. If slab leaks are neglected, it can cause serious problems, including wall and foundation cracks, high water bills, foul odors, low water pressure, uneven floors, and might even cause your house to shift and sink.
